Overview
The Project Engineer is responsible for the planning, control, and integration of engineering activities and the development of project deliverables to insure the success of their project. The individual designs power, lighting, and fire alarm systems for commercial, institutional and industrial facilities within a consulting engineering firm.  The Project Engineer utilizes his or her creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment to anticipate and solve engineering problems, determine program objectives and requirements, and develop standards and guides for diverse engineering activities.  The Project Engineer works closely with engineers and/or designers and delegates design responsibility and drawing production to them. The Project Engineer communicates with other disciplines to achieve a coordinated design. We are looking for the right person to mentor our well-qualified staff, interact with clients, and work with the rest of the team at Epstein. 

General Responsibilities

  • Gains a full understanding of the project objective, scope, deliverables, budget implications, and other factors that impact design activities.
  • Establishes design criteria for specific projects.
  • Takes responsible lead in the design and detailing of engineering systems. 
  • Manages the development of construction/equipment installation documents and project deliverables.
  • Performs analysis and design calculations or designates design and drawing activities to other project members.
  • Reviews and evaluates computer program and manual calculations for technical accuracy and compliance with established design criteria.
  • Coordinates with the project team and all design disciplines during the course of the project.
  • Performs field surveys and prepares associated reports.
  • Assists in preparing estimates of probable costs (i.e., for construction, equipment installation, etc.) at various stages of design.
  • Participates in preparation of project specifications.
  • Performs periodic design reviews; ensures designs follow specifications, codes and   regulations, and contract requirements.  Ensures technical and quality standards are maintained.
  • Reviews shop drawings for compliance with contract requirements and documents.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with emphasis in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (preferred)
  • 7-10 years of successful project experience within a consulting engineering firm
  • Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Outlook and discipline specific software packages such as SKM Power Analysis and AGI-32 Lighting Analysis
  • Expertise in engineering systems and related design principles
  • Awareness of other disciplines and the interrelationship of the various elements of design
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code and general building codes is a must
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • LEED Accreditation preferred

ELECTRICAL ESTIMATOR

DAILY DUTIES, included but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of complete cost estimates (labor and material) for electrical commercial and industrial projects.
  • Fluent in PlanSwift (or similar) and AccuBid for take offs and cost estimation.
  • Familiarity with standard bid solicitation process for public work.
  • Close coordination with Procurement and Project Management for project hand off when awarded.
  • Preparation of Bills of Material and other information for use by Purchasing.
  • Schedule and attend field walk-throughs with general contractors and additional construction/ engineering personnel to understand and determine constructability requirements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • This positon reports to the Chief Estimator in a department of 5.
  • 2-3 years of experience estimating new construction, maintenance and retrofit projects within electrical commercial and industrial projects is required.
  • Candidate must be knowledgeable of the N.E.C and local codes
  • Able to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include blue prints, proposals and other documents as they relate to the electrical work.
  • Knowledgeable with a wide variety of electrical materials and methods of installation.
  • Computer literate and proficient with software such as Microsoft Office applications (ie., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc), Dropbox, FTP sites, etc.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction or related field desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Team player and able to work with various partners, including some high profile, from start to finish
  • Self-driven and have the ability to stay on-task for extended periods of time.

Working conditions

Work Environment

This job typically operates in a professional office environment, however much of the job is done travelling. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare and process orders for electrical conduit and fittings.  Receive orders, check for accuracy and transmit orders to appropriate mill chosen through availability of product and geographic location to manufacturing facilities.
  • Check orders to determine validity of pricing, checking to see if the pricing is within the guidelines.
  • Enter orders and make any changes to order for entry on mills. 
  • Works with Regional Manager and Sales Representatives as necessary in handling customer requirements for House accounts.
  • Expedite orders and advise delivery time and product availability.
  • Works closely with Agent Warehouse personnel regarding paperwork and orders or backorders covering warehouse shipments to customers.
  • Provide Shipping Foremen with information to schedule shipments.
  • Works with Traffic Department personnel to meet customer shipping requirements. 
  • Resolve problems that arise on orders and shipments.
  • Assist Manager Customer Service as required and provide back-up for other customer service representatives.
